New, unique Pin-Up Shop opens in Connellsville

The Pin-Up Shop is a new and unique Connellsville business.

Owner Gemma Galley is having fun with photo shoots that are inspired by 1950's style.

"This is something to do with your girlfriends, for birthdays and bachelorette parties. The ladies come with hair, nails and make-up done," Galley said. "We have costumes that are '50's style plus shoes, accessories and props. Some photos are like glamour shots, depending on the taste and personality of the customer. Everybody ends up laughing and having a great time with photos to take home."

The sessions are private and by appointment only. The photos are taken by Galley and the results are tasteful and stunning. Some ladies are shy and just want simple and fun, others are over the top, she said. Patriotic shots are popular, especially for those who want to send them to that special someone in the military service. These special photos are often taken to give as an anniversary gift, Galley noted.

Customers can choose from several size packages when booking their appointment, including, two, three and five different outfits, all very reasonably priced. All images taken are provided on CD. The photo shoots take place in complete privacy and are for ladies ages 18 and up unless otherwise specified. The atmosphere is relaxed. Mother and daughter sessions can be scheduled and Galley expects to hold an open house in the near future for just this type of sitting.

There is a calendar package that is often scheduled and has a different outfit for each month of the year; 2012's are already being requested. One lady dressed and posed in her husband's work clothes to surprise him, Galley said.

Ideas range from simple to bold. The shots can be edgy and daring or demure and modest. They portray old Hollywood glamour, when movie stars were like royalty. The '50's fashions were sometimes sexy and were very chic.

"Almost anything you can imagine, we can do, tastefully, of course," Galley said. "There are summer shots that look like you're at the beach in a 1950's bathing suit. We've done cowboy shots that look like they're from an old TV show and others that look like movie stars from that era.

"Almost any theme you can imagine, we can create," she continued. "We can be dramatic or understated. We can be frilly or plain. We have lots of ideas to suggest and everybody seems to be happy with the results. Our vintage clothing and costumes come in all sizes or you can bring your own, we've even had women who went to a costume shop before coming here so they'll have the exact look they're trying to achieve.
