About the Author Hearing impaired from birth in the Rubella outbreak of 1952, and with moderately diminished sight, Benjamin Franklin Pierce began his troubled education by being “socially promoted” as far as the 11th grade, at which time he left school at age seventeen to serve in the United States Marine Corps, where he was able to earn a GED credential, also known as a high school equivalency diploma. To digress but briefly, it is here noted that while in grammar school, he was twice kept back a grade, and that at age twelve, he was assigned to what was then, in times now long past, actually called, “The retarded class”. Early reports stated that he evidenced acute signs of xenophobia, along with loosely defined schizophrenic and autistic tendencies. In mid-life, he was officially diagnosed as suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), due to severe childhood trauma, and found to have what is now known as dyslexia. Raised in what he describes as a bi-lingual, multi-cultural household, the author is completely self-educated. He has been trained as a transcriber of Braille materials for the blind, is recognized as an expert on black history, is a near fluent reader of Spanish, excels at Latin, and has a proficient knowledge of French and the sign language of the deaf. A student of the Sorbonne, he has lived in Monaco, and now calls the Latin quarter of Paris his home.
