Hybrid Cloud Storage Deployment using Windows Azure, SharePoint and StorSimple Honored by ECM Industry Organization

Santa Clara, Calif. – March 14, 2011 – StorSimple, the leading provider of Windows optimized Hybrid Cloud Storage technology, today announced that Rockford Construction has been named as a finalist for AIIM’s Carl E. Nelson Best Practices award, which recognizes excellence in information management project implementation. Rockford is taking a hybrid cloud storage approach using Windows Azure, SharePoint and StorSimple to manage its construction project content including Office documents, CAD drawings and videos.

Rockford Construction is one of the nation’s Top 400 contractors, building in 40 states and averaging $245 million in volume each year. It selected Microsoft SharePoint as a way to give its many field representatives access to all information about projects in real time while on-site, and to provide a repository for archiving data based on a 10 year retention policy.

Rockford looked to StorSimple’s hybrid cloud storage appliance, alongside Windows Azure cloud services, to implement an innovative cloud-as-a-tier infrastructure. This combination of cloud services and storage allowed Rockford to keep business critical applications like SharePoint, as well as necessary tier 1 and tier 2 data, on premises while automatically migrating non-working set data to the cloud. The result was Solid State Disk (SSD) performance with the instant provisioning and elasticity of Windows Azure storage available from multiple locations.

“Construction is undergoing exponential data growth. Ten years ago when we inspected a building and found a crack in the wall we typed that up as text. Now we video the wall before and after inspection,” said Shawn Partridge, vice president of IT at Rockford Construction. “We saw hybrid cloud storage using StorSimple and Windows Azure as the best-of-both worlds -giving us SSD speed for the content we are actively working on in SharePoint, and simple offsite, live archives and data protection in the cloud.”
