Duck builds nest, lays eggs at Home Depot

BANGOR, Maine, June 2 (UPI) -- Workers at a Home Depot in Maine say a mother duck built a nest and is caring for her eggs in the store's lawn and garden section.

Brenda Hatch, who works in that section of the Bangor store, said the duck showed up about three weeks ago and built a nest, the Bangor Daily News reported Wednesday.

Hatch said the nest area is protected by yellow caution tape and a sign requests customers "please do not disturb the duck."

The employee said she feeds the duck every morning and brings her water twice a day.

"My father used to raise ducks, but I could never get this close to them," Hatch said.

She said the duck is believed to be the same one that showed up at the store last year, but that time she was relocated before building a nest.

"She came back this year and laid eggs in the same aisle where we found her last year," Hatch said. "We try not to disturb her. She's wild."

In brief: Keep it civil and stay on topic No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines ( see more ):

Don't insult one another or the subjects of BDN stories. You may be ticked off at what someone did or said, but you can explain that without resorting to name-calling or obscenity. Remember that young people are on this site too. That nasty line that makes your buddies go "haw, haw"? You're better than that. Comments should be your own work, not copied and pasted from elsewhere, though brief quoted passages to make your point are fine. And please don't use all capital letters. There's no need to shout. However, if you'd like to start a blog about your Maine neighborhood, please stop by Maineville.com and get started. Some ideas - the fate of the earth, abortion, gun control, the nature of God - aren't going to be resolved in a reader forum, so no need to get frustrated if others don't see your point of view.
