Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals' Albert Pujols out 4-6 weeks with broken wrist

Concluding a news briefing about Albert Pujols' injury that killed the mood at Tony La Russa's charity golf event, the St. Louis Cardinals manager let down his guard.

"I'm going to go find a place to cry," La Russa said.

Pujols will be out an estimated 4-6 weeks with a fractured left wrist from a first-base collision over the weekend. Baseball will be without a three-time N.L. MVP and the Cardinals, tied for first in the N.L. Central, are left to absorb another devastating blow in a season marred by injuries.

"You can't replace a player of his magnitude," general manager John Mozeliak said. "We still have to find ways to win games, and that's what we'll do."

The team announced the results of an MRI and CT scan Monday, one day after Pujols was injured during a home game against Kansas City. The injury is a non-displaced fracture of the left radius bone and his arm is in a splint.

Mozeliak said he hoped to have Pujols back by the beginning of August and the team anticipated no lingering effects from what the general manager described as a small fracture. Mozeliak said Pujols' left shoulder was sore but no structural damage was found.

Though his .279 average is 50 points below his career numbers, Pujols was starting to heat up after a slow start and went 3 for 3 with a homer in his last at-bat on Sunday. He's among the league leaders with 17 homers and 45 RBIs.

Pujols was hurt trying to make a tag after taking an off-line throw from second baseman Pete Kozma and the Royals' Wilson Betemit collided with the glove hand.

Mozeliak said he hadn't spoken with Pujols, who had been optimistic after the game that the injury wasn't serious.

"I was optimistic we were going to get better news," Mozeliak said. "I really was."

Pujols, 31, is due to enter free agency this fall after rejecting a multiyear contract extension at the start of spring training. He will be placed on the 15-day disabled list for only the third time in his career.

Dodgers: Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig on Monday rejected a proposed television deal between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Fox Sports that voids a recent divorce settlement between team owner Frank McCourt and his ex-wife, Jamie McCourt.

Selig said in a statement the TV contract would not be in the best interests of baseball and would further divert team assets to McCourt's "personal needs."

"Given the magnitude of the transaction, such a diversion of assets would have the effect of mortgaging the future of the franchise to the long-term detriment of the club and its fans," Selig wrote.

St. Louis Twitter Index on Fox News | The Broad Brush

Fox 2 News in St. Louis has a Web World segment. This clip is courtesy of Fox2News.

Jill shows off her Twitter rank on StLIndex.com, and compares it to Kevin Steincross, long time anchor and local St. Louis personality.

Also shown are local top ranking tweeps (twitter users): @RizzoTees and @Tojosan <- that would be me.

My take upon watching this is that Kevin does not see a lot of value to Twitter. He even voices that top Twitter users must tweet everything, such as getting out of bed.

True enough is that part of the Twitter community’s routine is to welcome old friends and new each day. Caffeine is a trending topic in the morning across the world.  Folks do mention the daily grind.

Most heavy Twitter users though are engaging in conversation as much or more than they are broadcasting their lives. Personally, I share articles, videos, and photos both in conversation and out.

Close friends on Twitter for me include authors, radio and TV hosts, musicians, chefs, and social media consultants. My connections aren’t just local to St. Louis.

Australia, South Africa, France, Japan, Canada, and Egypt are a handful of countries where I have daily connections.

Business gets done here as well. Restaurants local to St. Louis are active online, both chatting with existing customers and fans, as well as listening for conversation about the restaurant or perhaps even a food speciality, such as beers or pizzas. Twitter is a top place I find new restaurants to try.

So Kevin, and those not in the know, maybe Twitter isn’t your favorite thing or you don’t understand it, but it isn’t to be dismissed, nor online social networking in general. Social networking at the bar isn’t gone, but it’s grown to allow you to belly up with folks of all walks off life, all over the world.

Get with the program!
