With the CBA expiring on June 30, the two sides will try to make some progress on two key sticking points: the owners' insistence that there be a hard salary cap, and drastic cuts in players salaries and benefits that would total around $800 million per season. The players, meanwhile, who currently get 57% of the income, want to keep the soft cap and other aspects of the current economic system. The two sides have made virtually no progress since talks started almost 18 months ago. Players met Monday to decide if they're going to agree to the shortening of contracts or the reduction of salaries. Such concessions might help jump-start negotiations, although players are convinced that they're going to be locked out, regardless of what they offer at the table."
