Inter-Integrate Circuit (abbreviated to I2C/ IIC/ Inter IC) is a serial bus designed to allow easy communication components of the same USB SPI/ USB GPIO circuit board.
The USB SPI system ( USB-I2C interface adapter) was created by Philips in the early ’80s. Than, Philips Semiconductors migrated to NXP Company.
Not very popular but very interesting subject to discuss is I2C Message Protocols.
USB I2C interface devices are divided into following types of messages:
Single Message (An SPI master writes data to an SPI slave) Single Message ( An SPI master reads data from an SPI slave) Combined Messages (An SPI master issues at least two message to one or more SPI slaves)The beginning of transaction begins with the help of the generation of the START condition and ends with a STOP condition.
In a combined message of the I2C system, whether you read or write data begins with the condition START and address to the given slave, which respond to particular message.
USB I2C SPI adapter support arbitrary message structures (SMBus and PMBus).
SMBus system involves a single slave. And PMBus is used for extending SMBus with a Group Protocol. This PMBus system allows to multiple such SMBus transactions, which should be sent in one combined message. In this case, the terminating STOP of the SMBus indicates to the Group protocol, that it should take effect.
