Red Lion grads, supt. celebrate moving on

Supt. Frank R. Herron was right alongside them.

Herron started his tenure as superintendent when the Class of 2011 was in kindergarten. He is retiring at the end of the school year.

"I feel really proud of this class and glad I was able to watch them grow through the years," Herron said at Thursday night's ceremony.

Red Lion's graduating class had 391 students, with 79 percent moving on to higher education and $4.5 million worth of scholarships.

Elizabeth Bishop encouraged her fellow graduates to believe in Red Lion and in the right choices in their lives.

"I believe in Red Lion because Red Lion believes in me," Bishop said.

Senior Hannah Beard told the class to believe in their good choices because they made them.

"Stay true to yourself and the choices you make, don't let the past define you," Beard said.

Senior Matthew Hollenberg gave the graduates, and their family and friends a top 5 countdown of why Red Lion was the best. And while most were lighthearted, he said No. 1 was "the faculty and staff helps us succeed in the choices we made in high school."

The Class of 2011 had rain on their prom but Thursday, the rain, lightning and high winds cleared out for the start of graduation. When all the seniors sat down, a rainbow came out in the sky right above of graduating class.

"I am excited for the class of 2011, dare to be great and your memory will always be in our hearts," said their departing superintendent.
