9:28 a.m. Domestic disturbance -- 1700 block of N. Church Street. The female victim, 60, reported that her boyfriend, 49, allegedly broke out the glass window on the storm door. The suspect had sustained a laceration to his right arm from this incident and was transported by Med-Star to an area hospital for treatment.

4:17 p.m. Retail theft -- Walmart, 2601 Green Mount Commons. After concealing merchandise and leaving the store without paying for it, the male suspect, 51, was arrested. The suspect was transported to headquarters, booked and held pending investigation for subsequent retail theft.

10 p.m. Residential burglary -- 7000 block of West Main Street -- The male victim, 86, reported that sometime overnight someone forced entry to his residence causing damage to his side door. Nothing was reported taken from the residence at this time.

SATURDAY

12:46 a.m. Traffic stop, attempted criminal defacement, possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia -- Illinois 159 and West Main Street. After attempting to throw laundry detergent into the fountain on the square, the female driver, 23, and passenger, Breanna Procasky, 18, were arrested. Both subjects were transported to headquarters and booked. Procasky posted bond and was later released. The driver was transported to St. Clair County Jail and held pending further investigation on possession of a controlled substance.

6:05 a.m. Lost or stolen license plate -- First block of Tudor Drive. The female victim, 50, reported that the front license plate on her vehicle was lost or stolen.

6:42 a.m. Criminal trespass to vehicle -- 200 block of North Virginia. The female victim, 28, reported a male friend/suspect, 34, had taken her car without permission.

8:35 a.m. Residential burglary -- 200 block of North Eighth Street. The female victim, 30, reported that her house was entered through an unlocked back door and items (laptop computers, X-Box, games, TV and jewelry) were removed from inside.

10:10 a.m. Criminal damage to property -- Lowe's, 2500 Green Mount Commons. The male victim, 27, reported he had left his bicycle near the entrance to Lowe's and on his return he discovered that the tires were slashed and other parts were damaged.

11:07 a.m. Unattended child -- 200 block of South 27th Street. An anonymous caller reported that a young child was walking the street unsupervised. The officer made contact at the home where the child lives. The mother, 38, advised that her 5-year-old son had learned how to unlock the door and wandered down the street, but she noticed that he was gone and located him just outside.

Inside one of two equipment racks housing audio-visual control and processing equipment for a large lecture auditorium and three conference rooms. The installation was performed by a company better known for their audio-visual rental and staging services which tried and epically failed to get a foothold in the systems installation business. Needless to say, this outfit did not give a rat’s anal passage about industry standards for workmanship…calling this poorly managed spaghetti a rat’s nest would be insulting to rats.

The department operating these facilities called me to troubleshoot a problem with a computer projector in one of the conference rooms. (There is also a problem with the videoconferencing equipment in this rack, but I won’t go there.) To make a long story short, instead of going from the wall-mounted control box where the laptop input is straight to the room’s ceiling-mounted projector, the cabling takes a detour into this colorful version of hell (or is it a Jackson Pollock-style painting reinterpreted as a wiring job?). Suffice to say it took about 45 minutes to find the wiring to and from the conference room to bypass a faulty component hidden amidst this mess.
